Its amazing how we are strongly married to the concept of choice, we would rather have choice even if it befuddles us in the end. Somehow we have internalized the fact that it is better to have a choice and be confused rather than have limited choices and not be confused. Today the catering company offered us brunch (instead of regular breakfast and lunch). There is something disconcerting about the concept of a brunch for me. Firstly we all tend to overeat, simply because of the fact that we do not want to lose out on the opportunity of a really good dish. The concept of 'eat as much as you can' makes me deeply uncomfortable because we invariably end up wasting a lot of food, eating more than we can handle, and regretting it later on. We wish to taste almost everything on offer, but the quantity of food that we take, remains the same, so we end up stuffing ourselves. Today I ate even though I was full, because I wanted to finish the food that I had already taken. I dont know why I overloaded my plate, was it because I got excited seeing so much of food around me? In retrospect I realize that I would have been happy even if they had offered me a normal breakfast. Is it because of the initial surge of happiness that we encounter when we see a plethora of food around us?
Now that I look back upon it, it sickens me, to just think about the massive wastage, one by people who will eat to extract maximum value out of the deal, and by the catering company, when they throw out the excessive food that invariably gets made.
